Anyone who thinks the Chinese language consists of only 6,000 characters has never studied Chinese before. As a military linguist I had a dictionary of 9,999 Chinese characters (Standard Telegraphic Code) that represented only a SUBSET of Chinese characters. While at the Defense Language Institute and other government language programs, I studied more than 10,000 Chinese characters...and there are MANY more to learn!
